Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has reported that the death toll from the collision between a Commuter Line train and a long-distance train at East Bekasi Station in West Java on Monday (27/4) evening has increased to 14 people.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that, based on the latest data as of 08.45 WIB, 14 people have been confirmed dead.

The deceased victims have been taken to RS Polri Kramat Jati for further identification. Meanwhile, 84 injured victims are receiving medical treatment at various healthcare facilities.

“Update at 08.45 WIB: 14 dead, 84 injured, handling process still ongoing,” Bobby said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The incident at East Bekasi Station has brought profound grief. PT KAI extends its condolences to the deceased victims and their bereaved families, as well as to the injured who are currently undergoing medical treatment.

The evacuation and handling process is being carried out carefully due to victims requiring special care.

Every step is taken with consideration for medical needs and safety to ensure optimal handling. Medical teams, Basarnas, KAI, and all related parties are working in coordinated fashion on the ground.

KAI ensures that all victims receive maximum care. All medical treatment costs for the injured and funeral expenses for the deceased are fully covered by insurance and KAI.

Victim treatment is being handled at several healthcare facilities, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur and Barat.

KAI has also secured passengers’ belongings found at the incident site, which are now at the “lost and found” service.

The inventory and management of these items are being coordinated with the police to support identification and further handling needs.

KAI has set up an Emergency Response Post and Information Post at East Bekasi Station to assist families in obtaining information about victims and passengers. Families can contact KAI’s Contact Center at 121.

For the time being, East Bekasi Station is not serving passenger boarding and alighting. KRL services are operating up to Bekasi Station, while the downstream line has been opened for train operations with limited arrangements.

Deputy Minister of Transportation RI Suntana stated that the Ministry of Transportation, along with KAI, Basarnas, and all related parties, continues to handle the situation intensively.

Updates on information will be provided periodically as a form of accountability to the public.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba once again expressed condolences and apologies to all customers and victims’ families.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victims and their bereaved families, as well as to all affected customers,” she said.

“Our current focus is to ensure every victim receives the best care, families get the information they need, and all processes run with caution and strong coordination,” Anne added.
