Latest Report from 7 Regencies Affected by Flores Earthquake, NTT
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has reported the latest conditions in disaster-affected areas in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
BNPB claims there are no longer any reports of missing residents due to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake. Nevertheless, Basarnas is still deploying personnel in seven affected regencies.
“Basarnas teams remain on standby in seven affected regencies. As of today, 17 August, there are no longer any reports of missing residents in the affected areas. However, even though there are no further reports, Basarnas teams continue to carry out search efforts and continue to deploy personnel optimally in the affected areas,” said Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, on Monday (17/8/2026), as quoted from detikNews.
The earthquake that struck NTT on Saturday (15/8) caused fatalities, building damage, and forced thousands of residents to evacuate.
BNPB recorded that the number of fatalities due to the earthquake reached 68 people. Meanwhile, the number of injured victims was 213 people.
“68 people have died,” said Berton.
“We continue to monitor the number of victims and will continue to report if any additional victims are found,” he added.
“The number of injured currently found is 213 people,” he said.
The fatalities are located in the areas of East Manggarai Regency to Ngada Regency.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has dispatched two field hospital units to Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, and Nagekeo Regency.
“Kemenkes has dispatched two field hospital units to Ruteng, Manggarai Regency and Nagekeo Regency. It is hoped that these hospitals will be able to serve our residents who are earthquake victims and those who must be evacuated,” said Berton.
“Because many hospitals and community health centres have been affected by this earthquake,” he added.
The government is optimistic that it can handle the impact of the earthquake based on reports from the field. The government is also preparing logistics, temporary housing (huntara), and permanent housing (huntap).
“Not yet (opening aid from other countries),” said Prasetyo at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (17/8/2026).
“We will see later, because based on the daily reports we receive from colleagues monitoring the field, everything can still be handled well,” said Prasetyo.
“Both logistical needs, evacuation, and even plans for repairing temporary and permanent housing are already in the identification process,” he added.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman has instructed Bulog to consolidate food aid to the disaster areas. Total food aid worth Rp 75.4 billion has been provided to four regencies in NTT with a total of 5,386 tonnes of rice.
“In conditions like this, the state is present and moving quickly. We ensure that rice aid is distributed to help meet the food needs of communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara,” said Amran in his statement on Monday (17/8/2026).
Aid was provided to Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ngada, and Sikka Regencies. Specifically for disaster assistance, the total rice allocated reached 200.35 tonnes.
“Food handling in disaster situations must not stop at emergency aid. We must also ensure that communities continue to have access to food after the emergency response period. Therefore, we maintain disaster assistance and regular food assistance simultaneously,” explained Amran.
