Makassar, VIVA – The Head of the Professional Standards and Security Division (Propam) of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Police Commissioner Zulham Effendi, stated that the two Polri (Indonesian National Police) officers serving at the North Toraja Police, who are allegedly involved in a drug case, are still being detained.
This detention is in response to the circulation of a letter from the Chief of the South Sulawesi Regional Police stating that the two Polri officers were released from special placement sanctions (patsus).
“They are still being detained. They have not been released; that is part of the Paminal (Internal Security) process,” said Zulham when confirmed by reporters in Makassar on Tuesday.
He explained that the circulating letter from the Chief of the South Sulawesi Regional Police was not about the officer in question, AKP EA, who holds the position of Head of the Narcotics Unit at the North Toraja Police, being released, but rather part of the internal handling mechanism through the patsus regulations.
Regarding the patsus mechanism, Zulham said that in the initial stage, the Paminal of the South Sulawesi Regional Police can detain the suspect for two days. This can then be extended to three days, making the total maximum detention period five days.
“If there is a (suspicion of) a violation of the code of ethics, then we will proceed to the code of ethics patsus. So, the maximum is 30 days (of detention) if there is a violation of the code of ethics; we will then proceed to the code of ethics patsus. So, the maximum is 30 days,” he explained.
The circulating letter from the Chief of the South Sulawesi Regional Police contains two points: first, the release of the security detail for AKP AE, who holds the position of Acting Head of the Narcotics Unit, North Toraja Regency Police.
Second, the alleged violator has completed the security detail at the guard room of the Sub-Directorate of Provost of the South Sulawesi Regional Police from 18 to 23 February 2026, after which the alleged violator will be brought before his unit.
Regarding the schedule for the code of ethics hearing for AKP AE, Zulha said that the team is still preparing the agenda because the handling process has now shifted from the Paminal investigation to the enforcement of the professional code of ethics, as they have the authority to hold the hearing.
Regarding the evidence in the form of money, which is said to be payments from drug dealers who were previously arrested, Zulham has not yet provided a statement because this falls under the scope of the investigation.
He asked the public to be patient and wait for the results of the investigation.
“Regarding that matter, we will see the facts later. I apologize, but I do not want to provide too much information because this is still in the process of being investigated,” he said.
