Rail transport reaffirmed its position as the primary choice for the public during the 2026 Lebaran transport period. The high number of passengers, increasingly reliable services, and successful operational management serve as strong indicators of growing public trust in the services of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). In West Java, KAI’s Bandung Operational Area (Daop) 2 recorded 872,179 passengers using trains during the Lebaran transport period from 11 March to 1 April 2026. This figure consists of 441,610 departing passengers and 430,569 arriving passengers. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 2 Bandung, Kuswardojo, stated that the high mobility reflects public trust in the safety, comfort, and punctuality of train services. “This adds to our enthusiasm to continue improving services,” he said. The same trend is evident in the Jakarta Operational Area (Daop) 1. As of the end of March 2026, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta served more than 1.4 million passengers, with details of 815,703 departing passengers and 622,517 arriving passengers. The return flow volume consistently exceeded 50,000 passengers per day since 23 March. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, assured that all journeys ran smoothly, safely, and under control with maintained punctuality. The majority of return flow passengers came from popular cities such as Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung. Positive experiences were also felt directly by passengers. Riri, a passenger from Semarang, chose the train because it is considered more practical and free from traffic jams. “I prefer the train because it’s not troublesome with traffic,” she said. Meanwhile, Diah assessed that the station’s proximity to activity centres is a distinct advantage, and Didik added that trains are faster and more punctual than other modes of transport. Besides operational smoothness, KAI’s service commitment is also reflected in the management of lost items. In the Cirebon Operational Area (Daop) 3, during the 2026 Lebaran transport period, KAI handled 89 cases of lost items with a total estimated value of Rp106.56 million, all of which have been returned to their owners. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 3 Cirebon, Muhibbuddin, stated that the lost and found service is an integral part of comprehensive passenger service. The found items vary, from electronic devices to jewellery and cash.
