The case involving the alleged unlawful detention and assault of YTR continues to draw significant public attention. After being a fugitive, Taufik Hidayat was successfully apprehended by the West Java Regional Police, and his current status is now being revealed.

The man, who is suspected of detaining and assaulting YTR for several years, is currently undergoing a series of intensive examinations for investigative purposes.

The West Java Regional Police have confirmed that the legal process against Taufik Hidayat is ongoing. In addition to his interrogation as a suspect, the police have taken specific measures given that the case has captured widespread public interest.

Held Alone in Special Cell

One of the latest developments is the decision by the West Java Regional Police to place Taufik Hidayat in a special detention room while the examination process continues.

The West Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, stated that the suspect will not be placed with other detainees. He will serve his detention period alone in a room equipped with surveillance cameras (CCTV).

“We will carry out detention in a special cell that is equipped with CCTV, where he will be held alone under our full supervision,” Rudi said in Bandung on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

The placement in a special cell coincides with the ongoing initial examination process. The police aim to ensure that the entire sequence of events can be fully uncovered.

“We are conducting the initial examination tonight; subsequently, we will officially proceed with detention, and tomorrow the examinations of the individual concerned will continue,” he added.

Undergoing Psychological Examination

In addition to the criminal investigation, Taufik Hidayat will also undergo examination by psychiatric experts. This step is being taken to assist investigators in obtaining a clearer picture of the suspect’s psychological condition.

The West Java Regional Police Chief noted that this examination is a vital part of the investigation because the actions allegedly committed by the perpetrator are considered unusual.

“This includes involving several experts, including psychiatrists, so that we can obtain preliminary data regarding the suspect’s mental state,” said Rudi.

According to him, the alleged detention and assault experienced by the victim over several years constitute actions that fall outside the bounds of normalcy.

“Because what was done, as everyone knows, is something unnatural—something outside the usual behaviour of a person towards their partner, which can be described as excessively sadistic,” he remarked.
