Latest Facts in the Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case
The terror attack involving acid pouring that befell Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), remains shrouded in mystery. The case has escalated to the investigation phase following the discovery of alleged criminal violations as stipulated under Article 467 paragraph 2 and or Article 468 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
During the investigation process, police have questioned seven witnesses, gathered evidence and analysed 86 CCTV recordings from various locations.
Alleged to have been committed by four persons
Based on CCTV analysis, police state that the acid attack was allegedly carried out by four individuals. The CCTV footage shows the four suspected perpetrators waiting for the victim in front of KFC Cikini, Central Jakarta.
“Four suspected perpetrators allegedly using two motorcycles waited for the victim in front of KFC Cikini,” said Metro Jaya Police Criminal Investigation Directorate Kombes Iman Imanuddin during a press conference on Monday, 16 March.
From that location, the perpetrators followed the victim to Jalan Diponegoro, then continued to Jalan Salemba 1, where the acid attack against the victim occurred.
Despite this, police have not yet made arrests of the perpetrators. Iman stated that his team was still gathering evidence. Additionally, police are awaiting forensic laboratory examination results of evidence that has been found and seized by investigators. The evidence includes a helmet allegedly used by the perpetrators and a container allegedly used to store acid.
“We very much hope that the results of the forensic laboratory examination will find fingerprints from the perpetrators, and also DNA from the perpetrators that may be attached to the helmet in question. As for suspects or perpetrators, we state that we have not yet taken coercive measures,” said Iman.
Gathered at Gambir
Still based on CCTV, the terror act began when the four suspected perpetrators departed from South Jakarta. Subsequently, the perpetrators first gathered on Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur in front of Gambir Station, Central Jakarta.
In the afternoon, the perpetrators were recorded beginning to move towards Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. They then circled around the Tugu Tani area.
Iman stated that the surveillance process continued when the perpetrators moved towards the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI). The perpetrators then waited for the victim until the victim left and headed to the Cikini petrol station.
“When the victim finished the event at YLBHI, the victim did not immediately head to the incident location but first refuelled at Cikini Raya petrol station, and was followed by the perpetrators,” said Iman.
Iman explained that the perpetrators were also recorded on CCTV in the petrol station area whilst following Andrie Yunus at approximately 23:32 to 23:35 WIB.
After that, the four perpetrators waited for the victim in front of KFC Cikini with two different motorcycles. After the victim refuelled, the perpetrators immediately moved towards Jalan Diponegoro before turning towards Jalan Salemba 1, which was the location of the acid attack.
“During the incident at 23:37 on Thursday, 12 March 2026 on Jalan Salemba 1 at the intersection with Jalan Talang, in Central Jakarta,” said Iman.
Fled to Kalibata and Bogor
The four perpetrators were also recorded on CCTV fleeing to different locations after committing the act. In this act, the four suspected perpetrators used two different motorcycles.
“After the incident, our team also traced the suspected perpetrators fleeing in different directions from the two teams,” said Iman.
Iman revealed that from the two motorcycles, one fled the incident location by driving against traffic on Jalan Salemba Raya towards Senen. Then, from Senen, it moved directly to Jalan Kramat Raya and towards Tugu Tani.
Subsequently, from Tugu Tani, they moved towards Gondangdia Station. Then, from Gondangdia Station, the perpetrators headed towards South Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the other motorcycle, from the incident location, fled directly towards Jalan Pramuka Sari 2 towards Matraman. From there, the perpetrators were recorded heading towards Jatinegara and subsequently to Jalan Otto Iskandardinata, East Jakarta.
Still based on CCTV footage, Iman stated that one perpetrator was seen changing clothes during the escape attempt.
“From the CCTV recordings which we combined with digital processing of communications devices, after the incident, one perpetrator allegedly changed clothes before continuing their journey in their escape. And analysis of communications devices shows the perpetrators subsequently scattered to the Kalibata, Ragunan, and Bogor areas,” said Iman.
Perpetrators allegedly trained
From preliminary investigation results, police suspect that the perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie were already trained. This is because, during the act, the perpetrators remained very calm and showed no panic.
“Is the network already trained? During the past several days of our digital analysis, we saw that the perpetrators’ journey indeed shows calmness,” said Iman.
“In conducting their journey from one point to another in the lead up to the incident,” he added.
Iman further stated that the perpetrators did not panic after carrying out the acid attack on the victim and immediately fled according to their respective escape routes.
“Then after the incident, from the two motorcycles, each moved with greater speed or behaviour than before,” he said.
Panicked and spread AI-edited photos
Furthermore, police suspect that the acid attack perpetrators deliberately spread AI (artificial intelligence) edited photos to social media. This was done because the perpetrators began to panic after CCTV video footage had been circulated on social media.
“The perpetrator and their network began to show panic and attempted to obstruct the investigation process by circulating AI-manipulated images or images,” said Iman.
He stated that the syndicate subsequently spread AI-edited photos to social media.
