Eight Jemaah haji from Embarkasi Makassar have died during the pilgrimage in the Holy Land, Mecca-Madinah, Saudi Arabia. As of 23 May, the number of pilgrims who have died in the Holy Land stands at eight, said Ikbal Ismail, head of the South Sulawesi Hajj and Umrah Office, on Saturday (23 May). Ikbal noted that of the eight pilgrims who died during the pilgrimage, the majority originated from South Sulawesi. The deceased pilgrims from South Sulawesi number six, with one each from Maluku and Maluku Utara, he said. Regarding gender, the deceased were predominantly female; only one was male. The ages of the deceased ranged from 41 to 90 years. Three were in the 51-60 bracket and three were in the 61-70 bracket, he added. All flight groups (kloter) originating from Embarkasi Makassar, numbering 43 kloters, have departed for the Holy Land. The prospective pilgrims have already arrived in the holy city of Mecca to prepare for the peak rites of the Hajj, Armuzna (Arafah-Muzdalifah-Mina).
