Latest Condition of KPK Suspect Yaqut, Who Has Undergone Surgery
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has disclosed the latest condition of former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, who is implicated in a hajj quota corruption case. The KPK stated that Yaqut has undergone surgery.
Yaqut’s detention was suspended to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital on Wednesday (24/6). The suspension was granted because Yaqut required hospital treatment for a digestive tract illness.
“Today, Wednesday (24/6), investigators suspended the detention of suspect YCQ. The suspension was based on a doctor’s examination which required the individual to undergo inpatient treatment at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital,” explained KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Wednesday (24/6).
“Based on medical information, the individual is suffering from a digestive tract illness,” Budi continued.
Budi stated that this suspension of detention is the suspect’s right to obtain healthcare. Budi also confirmed that investigators will continue to supervise Yaqut during the suspension.
KPK now reveals Yaqut’s latest condition following the suspension. Yaqut has apparently undergone surgery on Monday (29/6).
“Regarding the health development of Mr YCQ, on Monday (29/6) a medical procedure was performed by the medical team,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Tuesday (30/6).
The KPK stated that Yaqut’s condition is still under the supervision of the KPK team. The KPK hopes Yaqut can recover soon to continue the legal process.
“We hope his condition continues to improve, so he can soon resume the ongoing legal process. Investigators continue to monitor his condition,” Budi explained.
In this hajj quota corruption case, the KPK has named four suspects, all of whom have been detained. They are:
Former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ)
Former Special Staff to Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Azis alias Gus Alex (IAA)
Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour), Ismail Adham (ISM)
Chairman of the Kesthuri Association, Asrul Azis Taba (ASR).
The KPK suspects Ismail and Asrul gave money to Yaqut in his capacity as former Religious Affairs Minister. The money was allegedly handed over through an intermediary, namely Yaqut’s former Special Staff, Gus Alex.
Ismail is suspected of giving USD 30,000 to Gus Alex. Ismail is also alleged to have handed over USD 5,000 to the former Director General of Hajj and Umrah at the Ministry of Religious Affairs for 2024, Hilman Latief (HL).
The KPK stated that state losses in this case reached IDR 622 billion. The amount of state losses was calculated by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).
