Latest Condition of Female Student in Riau After Being Attacked Before Thesis Defence
A female student from the Sultan Syarief Kasim Islamic University (UIN Suska) in Riau was attacked with a machete just before her thesis defence. The victim, identified as F (23), sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.
“She suffered wounds to the head and arm. She was attacked more than once,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Police, Commissioner Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, in Pekanbaru, Thursday (26/2/2026).
Pandra said the victim is currently being treated in hospital. Her condition is stable.
“The victim’s condition is stable,” he added.
The victim is currently being treated at the Bhayangkara Hospital in Pekanbaru. She is scheduled to be referred to Arifin Ahmad Hospital for more intensive treatment.
“We will refer her to Arifin Ahmad Hospital in order to help her recover,” he said.
Motive for the Attack
The attack occurred at around 08.20 WIB this morning as the victim was about to attend her thesis defence. Police are currently investigating the motive behind the attack. Initial suspicions point to revenge or resentment.
“We are still investigating the motive. It is clear that the perpetrator had the intention to commit the assault, with a background of revenge and resentment,” said Pandra.
Pandra said the perpetrator and victim knew each other and had a close relationship. However, they will continue to investigate the perpetrator’s motive.
The victim is currently receiving treatment in hospital. She suffered machete wounds to the head and arm.
“She suffered more than two machete wounds,” he said.
Police have conducted a crime scene investigation at the location. Pandra said the case will be investigated using scientific crime investigation methods.
