Latest Condition of Andrie Yunus: Still Under Intensive Care, Lips Stitched
The Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) has stated that Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus is still undergoing intensive treatment. As of last week, Andrie has undergone a series of operations, including on the part of his lips affected by sulphuric acid.
“Last week, Andrie Yunus underwent another operation, which was on the right side of his face, neck, and several other parts, including the victim’s lips, which then had to be stitched at RSCM (Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital),” said the Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division of KontraS, Jane Rosalina, when submitting a letter of rejection for examination at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Monday (11/5).
“And his current condition is still undergoing intensive treatment in the hospital in the context of recovery from the acid splashing attack experienced by Andrie Yunus on 12 March 2026,” she added.
Jane, along with the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), today submitted a letter to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta to express rejection of Andrie being examined in connection with the trial of the acid splashing case.
Jane explained that the rejection is based on the fact that many general criminal cases tried in military courts do not create justice, but instead give rise to impunity.
“Andrie Yunus has consistently expressed his rejection since the beginning of the judicial process for the case that befell him, and even beyond that, for the cases he has protested regarding the military judicial system itself, which is suspected of being able to trigger impunity or lack of impartiality in general criminal cases,” she said.
In the letter, Jane stated that TAUD also objects to the judge’s statement that seems to force Andrie to give testimony in the trial.
Jane emphasised Andrie’s position in the acid splashing case currently being examined as that of a victim.
“We need to emphasise that this forced summons or criminal threat directed at Andrie Yunus is an attempt at revictimisation of the victim against Andrie Yunus, who is still bedridden today in the context of recovery at RSCM,” she said.
At least four defendants who are TNI soldiers are currently being tried at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta.
They are Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka.
The prosecutor charges the four TNI soldiers with carrying out the acid splashing against Andrie Yunus.
The motive, according to the prosecutor, is that the defendants hold a grudge against Andrie, who successfully interrupted the agenda of the meeting discussing the revision of the TNI Law held by the DPR at the Fairmont Hotel, South Jakarta, in March 2025.
“With that incident, the defendants considered that Mr Andrie Yunus had insulted the TNI institution, even stepping on the TNI institution,” said the prosecutor when reading the indictment in the previous trial.
The defendants are charged with violating Article 469 paragraph 1 subsidiary Article 468 paragraph 1 further subsidiary Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
