Latest Condition of Andrie Yunus: Experiencing Eyeball Leakage, RSCM Medical Team Performs Emergency Procedure
The medical team at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) has provided the latest update on the condition of Andrie Yunus, 27, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, who was the victim of a sulphuric acid attack. The primary focus of treatment is currently on the victim’s right eye, which has suffered severe corneal tissue damage.
RSCM’s Legal and Public Relations Manager, Yoga Nara, revealed that Andrie underwent his third eye surgery on Saturday (28/3/2026). During the procedure, the ophthalmology specialist team discovered drastic thinning on the corneal surface.
“During the surgery, the corneal surface was found to be increasingly thin and there was leakage in the eyeball wall,” Yoga stated in a written release on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
To save the eyeball’s shape and prevent permanent damage, the medical team performed an emergency procedure by patching the eyeball wall using tissue taken from the patient’s limb. The area was then covered with conjunctival membrane.
As a long-term recovery measure, the medical team decided to stitch the right eyelid completely shut for the time being.
“This closure is planned to last around four months. After that, the medical team will conduct further evaluation to determine the next steps,” Yoga explained.
Besides the still critical eye condition, the medical team reported significant progress on burns to other parts of the body.
Wounds on the face, front neck, chest, shoulder, and right arm are beginning to close and dry up following skin graft procedures.
Nevertheless, the medical team is still monitoring the dead skin area on the back neck, which is scheduled for further skin grafting within the next week.
Regarding the psychological aspect, RSCM stated that Andrie Yunus is in a fairly stable condition amid the severe trauma he has experienced. Intensive psychological support continues to be provided to maintain the patient’s mental state during treatment.
“The medical team continues to provide psychological support to ensure the patient remains calm and able to follow the treatment process optimally,” Yoga concluded.
A multidisciplinary medical team, consisting of plastic surgery specialists to ophthalmologists, has been deployed to ensure Andrie Yunus’s treatment proceeds seamlessly.
YLBHI has criticised the transfer of the Andrie Yunus acid attack case to TNI’s Puspom, deeming that the intellectual actors and perpetrator networks have not been fully uncovered.
The revelation of this case aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s firm commitment, who explicitly described the incident befalling Andrie Yunus as a form of terrorism.
KontraS Chairperson Indria Fernida revealed that Andrie Yunus’s condition is still undergoing intensive treatment in the High Care Unit (HCU) room.
KontraS urges the DPR to push the President to form an Independent TGPF to thoroughly investigate the intellectual actors of the Andrie Yunus acid attack to safeguard democracy.
