Good news for those still seeking train tickets for the homecoming journey. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has announced that the 30 percent train ticket discount programme can still be utilised by the public. Sunday, 29 March 2026, marks the last chance for prospective passengers to enjoy the price reduction. The programme applies to economy class commercial train tickets in the KAI Daop 8 Surabaya region. “Today is the final opportunity for the public to take advantage of the 30 percent discount, with more than 2,000 seats still available,” said the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, in Surabaya, East Java. Overall, Mahendro stated, KAI Daop 8 provided 188,288 tickets under this discount programme. Of that number, approximately 150,665 tickets have been sold, reflecting the high public interest during the Lebaran transport period. The peak in sales occurred on 18 March 2026 with a total of 30,293 tickets sold, followed by 19 March with 29,409 tickets. The high purchase figures demonstrate the public’s enthusiasm for using train transportation for homecoming trips. Nevertheless, KAI assures that tickets for various dates and routes remain sufficiently available until the last day of the promotion. One of them is the Tabur Berkah Hari Raya programme offered by KAI Daop 8. This promotion applies a partial fare scheme for several long-distance train journeys. Various discounts are presented following expectations of continued high ticket purchases. “Ticket sales are expected to continue increasing as the Lebaran return flow period progresses,” Mahendro remarked. The promotion is valid for departures from 22 to 30 March 2026, specifically for Yogyakarta and Semarang routes with a total of 21,411 executive class seats. As of 29 March, around 3,000 tickets with the partial fare scheme are still available for the public. In addition, KAI has launched the Silaturahmi 2026 promotion with a 20 percent discount for KA Ijen Ekspres on the Malang-Ketapang route, valid for departures from 30 March to 1 April 2026. In total, long-distance train ticket sales in the Daop 8 region up to Sunday reached 497,008 tickets, or about 88 percent of the total capacity of 561,528 seats for the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026.
