Laser surgery to improve eyesight
Laser surgery to improve eyesight
JAKARTA: Myopia and astigmatism are common eye ailments
here, with many people ranging from children to adults
experiencing problems.
While many people would rather use glasses and contact lenses
to help improve their sight, an eye clinic here has introduced
high-tech, almost pain-free, laser treatment for the defects.
The treatment, which is called LASIK (Laser Assisted In-situ
Keratomileusis), if successful can stop people with myopia and
astigmatism being dependent on glasses and contact lenses.
The laser treatment involves only a minor procedure, with no
injections being necessary as a local anesthetic is applied using
eye drops, said the Mata Nusantara Clinic, which is located in
Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, in a statement made available to The
Jakarta Post. --JP
