Lasarus Outraged Over 78 Passengers Missing from KM Putri Yasmin Manifest: Unacceptable

Chairman of Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR), Lasarus, was outraged upon learning of a discrepancy between the passenger manifest of the passenger motor vessel (KMP) Putri Yasmin and the actual number of people on board. According to the data, 78 passengers were not listed on the manifest.

The discrepancy came to light during a meeting between Commission V of the DPR and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), Basarnas, and the Ministry of Transportation at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (19/8/2026). The KNKT chairman was presenting passenger data for the KMP Putri Yasmin when Lasarus interrupted upon learning that 78 passengers were not recorded on the manifest.

“So how many is the difference between the passengers and the manifest if we subtract?” Lasarus asked during the meeting.

“The difference is 78 people, Sir,” replied Soerjanto.

Lasarus then questioned the figure again. Soerjanto confirmed that 78 passengers was correct.

“78, Sir, yes, 78 people? Correct?” Lasarus asked.

“138 compared to 216, 216 against 138, Sir, 78,” Soerjanto answered.

Lasarus was angered by the data showing 78 passengers missing from the manifest. In his view, a discrepancy of dozens of people was excessive.

“78 people is a lot, Minister (Dudy Purwagandhi). If the difference were 1, 2, or 3, that would be one thing, but this is a difference of 78 people, Sir. Sir, is this in accordance with the results, Head of Basarnas? This is unacceptable in my view, the difference between the manifest and the number of passengers is far too large,” Lasarus said.

He stressed that the manifest data discrepancy was a serious matter. Lasarus urged Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi to carry out an immediate evaluation.

“This is our hard work, Minister. Tidy all of this up,” he added.

For context, the KMP Putri Yasmin caught fire on 12 August 2026 at around 04.15 WIB. The vessel, serving the Padangbai, Bali–Lembar, Lombok route, burned in the waters of the Lombok Strait off Sekotong, West Lombok, NTB.

A total of 212 victims were evacuated to Lembar Port and Padangbai Port in Karangasem, Bali. Of that number, one person was reported dead, while four others remain missing.
