Largest Dairy Farm in Southeast Asia Worth Rp 1.2 Trillion Begins Construction in Brebes
The construction of the Rp 1.2 trillion facility was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony led by Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Chair of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives Siti Hediati Soeharto, Brebes Regent Paramitha Widya Kusuma, and CEO of Saviora Group Ihsan Mulia Putri on Monday (20/7). The integrated dairy farm, spanning 170 hectares, will accommodate approximately 30,000 dairy cows and feature milk processing facilities, waste-to-biogas and fertiliser processing, and an animal feed centre. “This is the largest dairy farm and milk factory in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Central Java will become more self-sufficient in food, particularly regarding milk production, especially with the support of the Minister of Agriculture,” Ahmad Luthfi stated. Luthfi explained that this investment would support Central Java’s position as a national dairy industry hub. Currently, the dairy cow population in Central Java stands at around 77,566 head, with milk production of approximately 78,465 tonnes per year, while the province’s milk demand reaches 94,730 tonnes annually. He expressed confidence that production from the new farm would meet both regional and national milk requirements. “The needs in Central Java will clearly be more than met with this investment. We have been needing almost 22,000 tonnes of milk per year, which we still source from other provinces. Once this is operational, we will have a surplus of milk,” he clarified. Furthermore, the presence of PT Global Dairi Bersama is expected to boost investment in the Central Java region, which has become increasingly attractive to investors due to its conduciveness, ease of permitting, and competitive workforce. CEO of Saviora Ihsan Mulia Putri said the groundbreaking represents a commitment to supporting the government’s efforts towards national milk self-sufficiency. She is optimistic the farm will create an independent and competitive dairy industry ecosystem while fostering new, inclusive economic growth in rural Central Java. “We chose Brebes in Central Java because of its extraordinary agricultural potential, the strong work ethic of its people, and the positive support from the Governor and Regent,” she said. Ihsan detailed that the 30,000 dairy cows are projected to produce around 180,000 tonnes of fresh milk per year, which would elevate Central Java to the second-largest milk-producing region nationally. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman highlighted the rising national demand for milk driven by increasing nutritional needs and encouraged Central Java to achieve food self-sufficiency to meet national requirements. He expressed confidence that the partnership model adopted by PT Global Dairi Bersama would accelerate the fulfilment of milk self-sufficiency targets.
