High waves struck residential areas on the coast of Monggalan Beach, Kusamba Village, Dawan District, Klungkung, Bali, this morning. The repeated waves have left residents anxious and on high alert around their homes.

Observations at the location showed that high tides began around 07:00 WITA. Waves crashing repeatedly against the coastline swept through residents’ homes, causing seawater to enter yards. A wall of a building that had already been abandoned by its occupants also collapsed due to the impact of the waves.

Ni Made Wati (50), a resident of Monggalan Beach, expressed her fear regarding the waves hitting her home. She was seen attempting to rescue her poultry, fearing that rising seawater might wash away the livestock kept beside her yard.

“I am very afraid. I feel fear every time large waves like this occur. If this continues, I will evacuate to a relative’s house,” Wati told reporters on Monday (29/06/2026).

Wati hopes that the government will promptly provide assistance for new housing for the affected residents. Additionally, she requested the construction of embankments along the coastline to mitigate the impact of high waves.

Her husband, Wayan Galung, expressed similar sentiments. According to him, large waves frequently occur during full moons, preventing residents from carrying out their daily activities with peace of mind.

“Every day the waves are a threat. It is impossible to work peacefully,” he complained.

As of the time of writing, high waves continue to hit the coastline and residential areas. Some residents have chosen to leave their homes to secure belongings that can be saved.

Meanwhile, other residents are patrolling the coastal area to monitor the condition of nearby houses in anticipation of further impacts from the waves.
