Large Waves Batter Homes on Bali's Coast, Residents Terrified
High waves again battered a residential area on the coast of Monggalan Beach, Kusamba Village, Dawan District, Klungkung, Bali, this morning. The large waves came repeatedly, causing anxiety among residents who remained on alert around their homes.
Observations at the scene indicated the tidal surge began around 7.00 a.m. local time. The waves, which struck the coastline unimpeded, repeatedly swept through residents’ homes, causing seawater to enter their yards. A wall of an abandoned building also collapsed due to the force of the waves.
A local resident, Ni Made Wati, 50, admitted she was terrified by the waves hitting her home. She was seen trying to save her chickens, fearing the seawater would rise further and wash away the livestock kept beside her yard. “I am very scared. I am frightened every time the waves are this big. If it continues like this, I will take refuge at a relative’s house,” Wati said.
Wati expressed hope that the government would soon provide housing assistance for affected residents. She also called for the construction of a seawall along the coastline to reduce the impact of the high waves. Her husband, Wayan Galung, echoed this sentiment, noting that large waves frequently occur during the full moon, leaving residents in a constant state of unease as they go about their daily activities.
