The South Jakarta City Government dredged the Pesanggrahan River in the Ulujami segment on Sunday (5/4/2026), following the persistent threat of flooding in the capital. South Jakarta Mayor M Anwar stated that this large-scale dredging at the border between the Kebayoran Lama and Pesanggrahan areas focuses on the riverbanks that have become shallow. “For the dredging of the Pesanggrahan River in the Ulujami Ward segment, the length of the area is 1,444 metres with an estimated volume of sludge around 36,174 cubic metres,” said M Anwar in his statement on Sunday. This dredging is targeted to reduce flooding, particularly in the areas along the Pesanggrahan River. “Approximately more than 30,000 cubic metres of sludge will be lifted. The length is more than one to 1.4 kilometres,” he said. A total of 600 personnel and five heavy machines were deployed for this activity. “The normalisation of the sludge lifted, God willing, IKPN will not flood too much,” Anwar remarked. In addition to dredging, the government is also building infiltration wells around the location. “Including today, the creation of 5 infiltration well points around the Pesanggrahan River,” said Anwar. The South Jakarta City Government ensures that community work will be carried out routinely every week. “How we strive continuously to minimise flood puddles that we can do with community work while we do it,” said Anwar. “Clearly, we keep doing it, we don’t stay idle,” he emphasised.
