Large Fire Breaks Out in Vacant Land Near Mall 23 Semarang

A large fire broke out in a vacant lot near Mall 23, POJ City, in Semarang, Central Java. Semarang City Firefighters are still struggling to extinguish the flames.

“The fire in the vacant land is very large. It is near Mall 23. We are still handling the vacant land fire,” said Tantri Pradono, Head of Operations and Rescue at the Semarang City Fire Department, on Wednesday (16/09/202 ತಮ್ಮ).

Tantri noted that the vacant land is located behind Mall 23, separated by a river approximately 50 metres wide. The fire was reported at 18:55 WIB, and as of 20:45 WIB, the flames were still raging.

“The wind is blowing towards the north. The smoke did not reach the mall, but the mall management was understandably concerned,” she added.

Tantri explained that the incident location is far from residential areas. However, the team faced difficulties reaching the site because of the river obstruction.

“The difficulty was crossing the river. We have just managed to secure a boat to cross,” she said.

From footage obtained from the Semarang City Fire Department, the fire appeared massive, consuming the land, with thick smoke rising high into the air.
