Labour union members gathered in front of the MPR/DPR RI building on Jalan Gatot Subrodo, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (6/10/2026). By midday, the crowds had filled the DPR area.

Observations at approximately 11:30 WIB showed that the labour masses had crowded the Parliament Complex area. Authorities also advised motorists to avoid the DPR vicinity due to the ongoing protest.

The demonstration took place concurrently with the 9th Plenary Session of the DPR RI for the first session of the 2026-2027 period. One of the meeting’s agendas included second-level discussions and decision-making regarding the Draft Law (RUU) on Labour Protection.

During the protest, the demonstrators carried several posters containing demands related to worker welfare. Some of the messages included, “Reject labour-intensive wages below the minimum wage” and “Protect the jobs of the working class.”

In addition to posters, the crowd unfurled large cloth banners containing various demands addressed to the government and the DPR.

Sunarno, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Labour Union Alliance (KASBI), stated that today’s action involved labourers from several regions, including Jakarta, Banten, and West Java.

According to Sunarno, the protest was organised to monitor the progress of the plenary session and to ensure that the substance of the ratified regulations truly considers the interests and protection of workers.
