Laptop Prices Skyrocket in Indonesia, ITC Traders Cry Out
The surge in laptop prices due to the AI chip shortage continues in Indonesia. CNBC Indonesia observations on Tuesday (7 April 2026) show that laptop prices at several ITC Kuningan stores have risen variably from Rp2 million to Rp4 million.
“There is a price increase of Rp2-3 million. Gaming laptops can rise up to Rp4 million. All laptop brands with graphics cards have increased by Rp4 million,” said one seller to CNBC Indonesia.
This increase has been occurring since the beginning of the year. Not only laptop prices but also the latest DDR5 RAM, which previously ranged from Rp800,000 to Rp900,000, now exceeds Rp2 million, with some reaching Rp2.5 million.
Several sellers admit that the increase has significantly affected sales. “It can drop by up to 50%,” said another seller.
In January, CNBC Indonesia also found increases in DDR4 and DDR5 RAM prices. At that time, the increases were gradual, with some reaching four times the previous amount.
In January 2026, the increases ranged from Rp400,000 to Rp1 million compared to October 2025. Meanwhile, 32GB DDR5 RAM had already reached Rp7-8 million. 16GB RAM also rose from Rp1 million to Rp2 million.
Research firm IDC predicts a deeper decline in global PC shipments throughout 2026. Citing Mactech, a similar fate has befallen the tablet market, which fell by up to 7.6%.
The cause of this decline is a shortage in the memory chip supply chain. Rising component prices and widespread supply chain constraints will limit production in 2026.
Not long ago, laptop manufacturer ASUS also spoke out about the dynamics of the global component supply chain. The company assured that there would be price adjustments for laptops marketed in Indonesia.
“In connection with the dynamics of the global component supply chain, ASUS will make price adjustments to laptop products marketed in Indonesia,” said Head of PR and Digital Marketing for ASUS Indonesia, Brama Setyadi, to CNBC Indonesia in January.
