Language Agency invites Sultra Provincial Government to collaborate on enhancing student literacy
Kendari (ANTARA) - The Language Development and Cultivation Agency of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) of the Republic of Indonesia has invited the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government (Sultra) to strengthen collaboration in order to improve education quality through literacy movements and universal participation.
Head of the Language Development and Cultivation Agency of Kemendikdasmen RI, Hafidz Muksin, when met in Kendari on Saturday, stated that synergy between the central government, local government, and mass media is the main key in improving the quality of human resources in the region.
“We are trying to discuss the roles of each party, between the Education Office and RRI together, to enhance literacy. Human resources, especially in Kendari City and Southeast Sulawesi Province, must be improved through literacy efforts,” said Hafidz Muksin after the Interactive Dialogue at RRI Kendari with the Head of Sultra’s Education and Culture Office and the Head of LPP RRI Kendari.
He conveyed that, in addition to strengthening literacy, there is also an important aspect of preserving local wisdom through regional language revitalisation programmes. He encouraged the integration of regional languages into the local content curriculum in schools so that the younger generation is not disconnected from their cultural roots.
“Because we know that Southeast Sulawesi has regional languages that contain values of local wisdom that must be used to enhance the character of our children.”
Regarding facility support, the Language Agency has provided quality reading materials for primary education units. However, he reminded schools and local governments to ensure that these books are optimally utilised.
“Do not let the books we have sent to schools not be used, monitored, and nurtured. We request support from the Education Office so that schools can manage them well,” explained Hafidz Muksin.
Meanwhile, the Acting Head of the Education and Culture Office (Dikbud) of Sultra, Aris Badara, positively welcomed the collaboration invitation. He affirmed his readiness to synergise through the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Language Centre.
“Of course, this becomes inspiration for us to enhance our children’s literacy. Literacy skills are very important for living life, both now and in the future,” said Aris Badara.
This synergy is expected to create a better education ecosystem in Sultra through the targeted use of reading books and the strengthening of regional language regulations at the education unit level.
