Langkat Regent Syah Afandin Arrives at KPK Building

Langkat Regent Syah Afandin arrived at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Red and White Building after being caught in a sting operation (OTT) over alleged project bribery. Based on CNNIndonesia.com’s observations, Syah arrived under the escort of the KPK team. No statement was given as the group entered the building. A KPK spokesperson confirmed the regent was one of those secured in the hand-arrest operation and arrived at approximately 2.30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The regent will now undergo further examination. The KPK arrested a total of seven people in the sting operation conducted in Langkat Regency, Binjai City, and Medan City. One of the individuals is a civil servant in Langkat Regency, while the other five are from the private sector. The operation is linked to alleged bribery involving projects under the Langkat Education Agency and the Langkat Housing and Settlement Agency. During the covert operation, the KPK also found evidence of the alleged criminal act in the form of cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah, which was part of a project fee given by private parties to the regent. The KPK added that it would further investigate whether there were other receipts or gratuities received by the regent or other state officials in the Langkat area.
