Langkat Regent Examined at Medan Police Headquarters Following KPK Arrest
The Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, was reportedly taken to the Medan Metropolitan Police Headquarters (Polrestabes Medan) for questioning on Thursday (2/7) after being caught in a sting operation (OTT) by officials from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in North Sumatra.
“There is information that KPK personnel were heard by the duty officer, but we do not know who is being questioned,” said the Head of Public Relations at Polrestabes Medan, AKP Nover Parlindungan Gultom, in Medan on Friday (3/7).
According to circulating information, the Regent is believed to be at the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) office of Polrestabes Medan. The regional head was allegedly detained in the afternoon to undergo initial interrogation.
In addition to the Regent of Langkat, several other parties were also detained during the operation. The alleged sting operation occurred while the Regent was attending an event for the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments in Deli Serdang.
The KPK confirmed that it conducted its 15th sting operation of 2026, resulting in the arrest of the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin.
“That is correct,” stated KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto to journalists in Jakarta on Friday.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested during the sting operation.
