Langkat Regent Briefly Held at Medan Police Station After KPK Sting, Status Still Under Investigation

Langkat Regent Syah Afandin was briefly taken to the Medan City Police (Polrestabes) headquarters in North Sumatra after being caught in a sting operation (OTT) conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

This information was confirmed by the Medan Police. However, the police stated they were not aware of the specific details regarding who was being examined, as the entire process was under the authority of the KPK.

Head of Public Relations for the Medan Police, AKP Nover Parlindungan Gultom, said that KPK officers were indeed at the Medan Police headquarters after the sting operation was carried out on Thursday, 2 July 2026. ‘We heard from the duty officer that there were KPK personnel, but we do not know who was being examined,’ he said in Medan on Friday, 3 July 2026.

Based on circulating information, Syah Afandin was taken to the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) office of the Medan Police for an initial examination after being secured in the sting operation. Monitoring until the early hours of Friday, around 04.30 WIB, indicated that the regional head had not yet been seen leaving the location.

Collected information suggests the Langkat Regent was secured on Thursday afternoon before being taken to the Medan Police. Besides Syah Afandin, several other parties were also secured in the operation carried out by the KPK.

The sting operation against the Langkat Regent was allegedly conducted while he was attending an event held by the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (APKASI) in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. However, to date, the KPK has not disclosed in detail the case that prompted the sting operation or the other parties who were secured.

The Corruption Eradication Commission has confirmed the execution of the sting operation. KPK Deputy Chairperson Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed that his agency arrested Langkat Regent Syah Afandin in an OTT, which became the 15th sting operation throughout 2026. ‘Correct,’ Fitroh told reporters in Jakarta on Friday. Although the arrest has been confirmed, the KPK has yet to convey the construction of the case or the evidence seized in the operation.
