Langkah Membumi Targets Youth, Turning Environmental Awareness into Real Action
Sustainability issues are increasingly gaining attention in Indonesian society, including among the younger generation. However, amidst this rising awareness of environmental issues, the challenge now is no longer just about building awareness, but about encouraging behavioural change that can be carried out consistently in daily life. Responding to this challenge, Blibli Tiket ACTION is introducing a new transformation in the organisation of Langkah Membumi 2026 through the Langkah Membumi Market concept, a platform that combines education, collaboration, and direct experience with a more pop, interactive approach relevant to young people’s lifestyles. This move is driven by a shift in audience profile over recent years. Based on insights from the event since 2023, around 90 percent of Langkah Membumi visitors come from the Gen Z and young millennial groups. This demographic is considered increasingly aware of social and environmental issues while also wielding significant influence over future consumption patterns and trends. These findings align with the growing public attention towards sustainability. A PwC survey shows that 62 percent of Indonesian consumers care about climate change, 57 percent choose products with more environmentally friendly packaging, and 71 percent are willing to pay more to support environmental causes. Blibli COO and Co-Founder Lisa Widodo stated that the rising attention of the younger generation to sustainability opens opportunities to present an approach closer to their daily lives. “We see that the younger generation is not only increasingly concerned about sustainability issues, but also more active in seeking products, services, and experiences aligned with the values they believe in. Therefore, Langkah Membumi Market 2026 is here to help bridge the gap between concern and real action through experiences that are more practical, participatory, and relevant to everyday life,” Lisa said. Unlike previous editions, this year’s Langkah Membumi adopts a market concept as an experience hub built on three main pillars. The first pillar is Inspiring Talks, presenting ideas, perspectives, and stories from industry leaders, creators, communities, and changemakers regarding the implementation of sustainability across various sectors. The second pillar, Eco Labs, is an interactive space inviting visitors to learn directly through workshops and practical experiences so that a sustainable lifestyle feels easier to adopt. The third pillar, Curated Market, serves as a platform for various brands and business actors to showcase products, services, and innovations supporting a green lifestyle. This transformation demonstrates a shift in approach to engaging the younger generation in environmental issues. If sustainability was previously often understood as a large issue that felt complex and distant from daily life, the approach now emphasises direct experience and small decisions that can be made consistently. Beyond presenting experiences closer to young people, Langkah Membumi also stresses the importance of impact measurement. For each edition, the programme conducts evaluations referring to international standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to measure various environmental aspects, from carbon footprint, emissions, and waste management to other sustainability indicators. This year’s series of activities began with the Langkah Membumi Networking Dinner 2026, held to coincide with World Environment Day. Carrying the theme ‘Who Should Change First: Companies or Consumers? Rethinking Sustainability Adoption through Business Transformation and Consumer Behaviour’, the forum brought together around 60 industry leaders, business actors, communities, and changemakers to exchange perspectives on strategies to accelerate sustainability adoption in Indonesia. The activity was also supported by UOB Indonesia as part of efforts to strengthen cross-sector collaboration. The peak of Langkah Membumi Market 2026 will take place on 8–11 October 2026 at Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, featuring various educational sessions, communities, interactive experiences, and a selection of products supporting a more sustainable lifestyle.
