Heavy rains over the past week have caused disasters in several areas of West Java. In Bandung Regency, strong winds, floods, and landslides occurred. Landslides happened in Kertasari Village, Cibereum Subdistrict, and Kampung Sayang Heulang, Bandasari Village, Cangkuang Subdistrict. Floods and fallen trees struck Cincin Village, Soreang Subdistrict, while strong winds affected Margaasih Village, Nagreg Subdistrict. “We urge the public to remain alert to the potential for extreme weather that could occur at any time,” stated the Head of the Bandung Regency BPBD, H Wahyudin, on Friday (3/4). He added that the Bandung Regency BPBD has distributed logistical aid to the affected areas, which is expected to help meet the basic needs of the victims. In Sumedang Regency, a landslide occurred in Blok Habibah, connecting Margalaksana Village and Pasanggrahan Baru Ward, Sumedang Selatan Subdistrict. The incident on Thursday night (2/4) left the road closed until Friday (3/4). “Efforts to clear the landslide material are still underway using heavy equipment,” said the Head of the Sumedang BPBD, Bambang Rianto. Meanwhile, a landslide also occurred in Karacak Village, Leuwiliang Subdistrict, Bogor Regency. The landslide hit part of a house owned by Mumuy Jajuli. There were no fatalities. For now, the house occupants have evacuated to the nearest family residence. Floods were observed on Jalan Saptamarga, BKR Dadaha, SL Tobing, Unsil, Cikalang, and M Hatta roads. The high rainfall on Wednesday morning (1/4) caused those roads to be inundated, leading to traffic congestion. A couple from Bogor, West Java, who were returning home for the holidays, experienced a tragic incident. The two were swept away by strong currents in a Cianjur drainage channel. During his inspection, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo visited the embankment in Padakaton Village to directly view the trigger point for the water overflow. DKI Jakarta is strengthening preparedness against potential floods amid rising extreme weather risks and ensuring flood control pumps are on standby.
