Landslides and Fallen Trees Hit Karangasem Due to Heavy Rain

Heavy rain swept through several areas of Karangasem Regency, Bali, today. The Karangasem Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded incidents of fallen trees and landslides in the districts of Selat and Sidemen, Karangasem. “The two incidents we handled have now been resolved,” said Karangasem BPBD Chief Executive I Made Aditya Sugiharta on Sunday (19/7/2026). Aditya reported that a landslide occurred in Duda Timur Village, Selat District. Landslide material struck a family shrine belonging to Made Sadi. Fortunately, the shrine did not suffer severe damage. However, cracks in the upper part of the cliff mean the area remains at risk of subsequent landslides if heavy rain falls again. Therefore, Aditya urged homeowners and their families to remain vigilant, especially at night. Meanwhile, a fallen tree in Loka Sari Village, Sidemen District, temporarily disrupted traffic flow. The wangkal tree, measuring 15 metres in length with a 40-centimetre diameter, completely blocked the road, preventing vehicles from passing. “Fortunately, no vehicles were passing by when the tree fell,” Aditya said.
