The bridge connecting Peken Belayu Village and Kukuh Village, Marga Subdistrict, Tabanan, Bali, is threatened with collapse after the embankment on one side of the bridge eroded and experienced a landslide on Wednesday (15/4/2026). The bridge is located above a tunnel over the Yeh Gangga River.

Marga Subdistrict Head I Gede Nengah Sudiartha stated that the landslide occurred on Wednesday afternoon based on reports from residents. The soil movement was triggered by large vehicles passing over the bridge, causing the embankment on the side of the bridge to erode gradually.

“The condition of the bridge is quite vulnerable because it was built over a tunnel without strong foundations or safety anchors,” said Sudiartha.

He noted that the bridge is old, with a length of about 200 metres and a height of 15 metres.

As a precautionary measure, the Tabanan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) carried out tree-cutting around the bridge, particularly on the eastern side. These trees were feared to worsen the unstable condition of the embankment.

Regarding the situation, the subdistrict office has reported to the Bali Provincial Government since the road is a provincial road. The route also serves as access connecting to Badung Regency and Tabanan Regency areas.

“It has been reported to the province by Tabanan DPRD member Mr Putu Eka Nurcahyadi. This is an important inter-regional connecting route, so it must be handled immediately,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Tabanan DPRD member I Putu Eka Nurcahyadi revealed that his side had previously reported the bridge’s condition to the Bali Governor and Tabanan Regent. Even two weeks ago, a team from the Bali Provincial Public Works Office was said to have conducted an inspection at the site.

“We ensure that this will receive immediate handling, both temporary and permanent,” he emphasised.

The results of the coordination indicate that handling will be carried out soon. However, to date, there has been no decision regarding the closure of bridge access. The Tabanan Regency Government is still awaiting instructions from the Bali Provincial Government, given that the road’s status is under provincial authority.
