Landslide-Prone Cliff on Klungkung-Gianyar Border Undergoes Stabilisation Works

The Klungkung Regency administration has begun physical stabilisation works on a landslide-prone cliff in Tusan Village, Banjarangkan District, Klungkung, Bali. The emergency measure follows a disaster-prone area mapping recommendation by the Klungkung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Klungkung BPBD Chief Executive I Putu Widiada said the location is classified as high-risk. According to him, the Klungkung Regent has prioritised the physical stabilisation of the cliff for the safety of residents living in the border area between Klungkung and Gianyar Regencies.

“There are four households threatened by potential landslides. Therefore, amid budget constraints, this has become a priority for the Regent,” Widiada explained on Sunday (23/8/2026).

Head of the Klungkung Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlement Areas Agency (PUPRPKP) I Made Jati Laksana explained the technical implementation of the project, which is designed to secure the slope and road users below it. The physical works are being carried out by CV Sari Nusa Raharja with a physical contract value of more than Rp 5.4 billion.

The cliff stabilisation project has a construction period of 155 calendar days starting from 14 July 2026. The work began with drilling for foundation points, assembly and installation of steel retaining structures for the cliff, as well as the placement of river stones on the slope face to strengthen the soil retaining structure so that it does not erode or collapse during periods of high rainfall.

“We urge motorists passing through the Klungkung-Gianyar border route to remain vigilant and cautious, and to comply with the guidance of officers on the ground for everyone’s safety during the construction period,” said Jati Laksana.
