Landslide kills two in Philippines
ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (AP): Searchers dug up two bodies
yesterday and were searching for at least five other victims of a
landslide in the southern Philippines, police said.
Three people rescued hours after the landslide Thursday said
at least seven of their neighbors had been buried under the mud
and debris, provincial police chief Ronaldo Roderos said.
Heavy rain loosened mud from a mountain which cascaded down on
several houses in Sergio Osmena in Zamboanga del Norte province,
Roderos said.
He said one of the three survivors was conscious and cried for
help, allowing rescuers to immediately find them. All of the
victims were in serious condition with bone fractures, he said.
"We are doing the best we can to dig up possible survivors in
the village," Roderos said.
