Landslide in West Bandung Damages Four Houses, Dozens More at Risk

A landslide incident has occurred in Kampung Legok Kadu, Celak Village, Gununghalu District, West Bandung Regency, West Java. Several houses have been reported damaged, while dozens of others remain under threat.

“It is true that we have received information regarding a landslide in Gununghalu. We have deployed a team to conduct an assessment,” said Asep Sehabudin, Head of the West Bandung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), when confirmed on Monday (18/05/2026).

According to preliminary information, the landslide occurred on 14 May 2026. Initial reports indicate that four residents’ houses have sustained considerable damage, particularly to the floors and walls, which have developed cracks.

“The visible physical damage includes four houses where the side and rear walls have cracked, and the floors have shifted by 5-7 cm,” Asep explained.

Furthermore, 37 heads of households in the area are potentially at risk from further ground movement. Consequently, the West Bandung BPBD has urged residents to remain vigilant and suggested temporary evacuation for safety.

“This phenomenon potentially threatens the safety of one neighbourhood unit (RT) consisting of 37 families. For the time being, we advise them to evacuate, especially those whose houses have already sustained damage,” he added.

The agency has not yet reached a conclusion regarding the exact cause of the landslide. The West Bandung BPBD plans to collaborate with the Geological Agency to conduct a study to determine the cause and assess the condition of the settlement in the area.

“Our preliminary suspicion is that the soil is unstable. We will soon send a formal letter to the relevant authorities to request an immediate study. The results will determine the subsequent course of action,” said Asep.
