Landslide in Central Aceh Kills One and Injures 13, Destroying Several Houses

Heavy rain that lashed Central Aceh Regency, Aceh, on Sunday, 13 September 2026, triggered landslides at several locations. As a result of the incident, one resident died and 13 others were injured. According to reports received by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the landslide occurred at approximately 18:15 WIB.

The disaster affected seven villages spread across four districts, namely Kebayakan, Lut Tawar, Celala, and Silih Nara.

As of Monday, 14 September 2026, officials are still conducting data collection regarding the impact of the landslide. This was revealed by the Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan.

“Based on preliminary data, one resident has died and 13 other residents have been injured,” he said on Monday, 14 September 2026.

In addition to causing casualties, the landslide also caused damage to several buildings. The BNPB noted that two houses suffered heavy damage and two others sustained moderate damage.

Landslide debris also blocked several road sections, disrupting public access. The Central Aceh Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) subsequently coordinated with relevant parties to conduct assessments and handling at the site.

“The BPBD has also deployed two units of heavy equipment, namely one wheel loader and one excavator, to clear the landslide material blocking the road,” he said.

The process of clearing the landslide debris is still ongoing. This step is being taken to reopen the affected road access and to support the smooth running of community activities.

The BNPB, along with the BPBD and relevant agencies, continues to monitor the development of the situation in the landslide-affected areas.

“The BNPB urges residents in the Central Aceh region and surrounding areas to remain vigilant against the potential for follow-up landslides, especially during periods of high-intensity or prolonged rainfall,” said Berton.

Residents living near slopes and cliffs are also asked to increase their vigilance. Citizens are advised to move immediately to safer locations if they observe any signs of ground movement.

The BNPB ensures that monitoring of the situation in the affected locations continues.
