While two-wheeled vehicles are still permitted to pass using an alternating traffic system to ensure the safety of road users. Probolinggo, East Java (ANTARA) – The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Probolinggo, East Java, conducted a rapid assessment following the landslide that occurred on the road section in Segaran Village on Tuesday (24 February). “The collapsed soil material has covered the road for approximately 35 metres, with a depth of up to 30 metres. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident,” said the Head of the Probolinggo Regency BPBD, Oemar Sjarief, in a statement in the local regency on Wednesday. The handling of the landslide incident, which blocked access to the road in Segaran Village, Tiris District, involved various elements, including the Probolinggo Regency BPBD, the Probolinggo Police, the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, the Transportation Department, Agisena East Java, the Tiris Sub-district Head, the Tiris Police, the Tiris Military Sub-district Command, and the Segaran Village Government. “The Rapid Response Team for Disaster Management (TRC-PB) was immediately deployed to the location to conduct an assessment and coordinate with the Segaran Village Government and the Tiris Sub-district to carry out rapid handling,” he said. Based on the coordination with the Tiris Sub-district Head, Bambang Julius Wijanarko, and the Head of Segaran Village, Budi Utomo, it was decided that a complete closure would be implemented for four-wheeled vehicles. “Meanwhile, two-wheeled vehicles are still allowed to pass using an alternating traffic system to ensure the safety of road users. However, it will be closed to two-wheeled vehicles if it rains or is foggy at night, or under other hazardous conditions,” he said. “We will carry out patrols at night in accordance with the appeal from the Police Chief, because the location is still vulnerable and has limited lighting. The urgent needs at the landslide location include street lighting and tents for the guard post,” he said. Oemar appealed to the public to remain vigilant against the potential for hydrometeorological disasters, given that rainfall is still likely to occur in several areas of Probolinggo Regency.
