Landslide Blocks Road in Morowali, Isolating 2,104 Residents

A landslide has blocked road access in Uempanapa Village, North Bungku District, Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, isolating 2,104 residents from two villages. The incident occurred on Friday (24/7/2026) at around 02.00 WITA, completely severing the only access route to Lemowalia and Salubiro villages.

"High rainfall caused the Swuya River to overflow, and its current eroded the cliff supporting the road. The cliff lost its support, resulting in the landslide," said Akris Fattah Yunus, Head of the Central Sulawesi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), in a statement on Sunday (26/7/2026).

Akris revealed that a total of 627 families, or 2,104 people, have been affected. This includes 500 families (approximately 1,700 people) in Salubiro Village and 127 families (404 people) in Lemowalia Village.

"Both villages remain isolated as the road is still impassable. Even motorcycles cannot get through the affected area," he said.

Despite the disruption, BPBD confirmed there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the landslide. The BPBD Quick Reaction Team (TRC), together with the Central Sulawesi BPBD Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops) and the North Morowali BPBD, have been deployed to the location to conduct assessments and coordinate emergency response.
