Landslide-Blocked Main Road in Central Aceh Undergoing Clearance
Central Aceh (ANTARA) — The main road leading to Bintang subdistrict in Central Aceh, which was buried by a subsequent landslide, is currently undergoing clearance operations.
Observations on Thursday revealed that an excavator from the Central Aceh Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) was clearing the earth deposits that had completely covered the road.
The landslide is estimated to have occurred during the night, when heavy rainfall lashed Central Aceh district from approximately 4:00 pm local time until it ceased at around 10:30 pm.
The main route connecting Takengon city and Bintang subdistrict serves as the sole access road for local residents.
The landslide debris blocking the road caused congestion involving dozens of cars and motorcycles attempting to travel to Bintang subdistrict or towards Takengon city.
Earlier, a landslide had also buried the main access road in Lut Tawar subdistrict, Central Aceh district, at around 9:00 pm.
In an update provided by the Central Aceh BPBD, the road has now been reopened after officers completed the clearance process at 10:30 pm.
Several locations across Central Aceh remain vulnerable to further landslides, given the soft soil conditions and high rainfall levels in the area.
