Landslide at Illegal Gold Mine in Sumbawa Leaves Three Dead
A landslide occurred at an illegal gold mining site in the Lawang Tua area, Lantung District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The incident, which took place on Saturday (5/9/2026) night, caused the deaths of three miners and left five others injured.
“The incident happened last night,” said the Head of the Sumbawa Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Muhammad Nurhidayat, as confirmed to detikBali on Sunday (6/9/2026).
Nurhidayat revealed that the BPBD received reports at approximately 21:00 WITA on Saturday (5/9/2026). That night, it was reported that several miners were buried under debris consisting of soil and rocks due to a landslide in the Lawang Tua mining area, Lantum, Sumbawa.
“Upon receiving the report, we went directly to the location to carry out evacuation efforts,” he said.
Upon arriving at the scene, BPBD officers joined other miners to search for those buried. At approximately 02:00 WITA in the early hours of the morning, the buried miners were successfully evacuated and immediately transported to the nearest community health centre (Puskesmas) via ambulance.
“Based on our records, three people have died and five others are injured,” he stated.
The three deceased miners were identified as Imansyah, Syarafuddin, and Syaifullah. Two passed away at the site, while one died en route to the health centre.
“The injured victims, some of whom suffered broken bones, include Novan, Farel, Jihan, Suryana, and Muslimin,” he added.
Nurhidayat added that the injured are currently receiving medical treatment at the Lantung health centre. Meanwhile, the bodies of the three deceased have been handed over to their respective families for burial.
“The police are now handling the matter. Police lines have been installed at the scene since last night,” he concluded.
