Landslide at Bantargebang Rubbish Mountain Claims Lives
A landslide at the rubbish mountain in zone 4 of the Bantargebang Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) in Bekasi, West Java, claimed three lives. Three people were reported dead after being buried in the landslide.
The incident occurred at approximately 15:29 WIB on Sunday, 8 February 2026, when numerous waste trucks and several individuals were operating in the location.
“A landslide occurred at zone 4 of the Bantargebang TPA at coordinates 0308 1529 G, and three fatalities have been found,” stated Desiana Kartika Bahari, Head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, in a written statement on Sunday, 8 February 2026.
Desiana noted that numerous waste trucks and food stalls were located in the area. Combined rescue teams immediately began documenting the incident and conducting rescue operations.
“Documentation is ongoing and there are still many waste-laden trucks and food stalls buried in the area. For the time being, documentation of the total number of victims is under way,” said Desiana.
“The Bekasi Search and Rescue Team arrived at the location and immediately coordinated with agencies and available resources on the ground,” she added.
Victims: Two Food Stall Owners and One Truck Driver
Two of the victims were food stall attendants working near the Bantargebang TPA. The third victim was a truck driver.
The victims were identified as Enda Widayanti (25), Sumine (6), and Dedi Sutrisno, a truck driver.
Desiana stated that two victims were transported to Banten. The third victim was transported to Karawang.
