Landslide at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Facility, Five People Still Missing
Jakarta — Combined search and rescue teams continue operations following a landslide at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST), Bekasi City, on Sunday 8 March. It is believed that five more people remain buried beneath the landslide and have not yet been found.
The Head of Operations of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, stated that according to data as of Monday 10.00 WIB, a total of thirteen people were buried beneath the collapsed waste pile. Of the thirteen recorded victims, four people have been successfully evacuated alive.
“Four victims have been rescued alive,” said Isnawa in a press statement in Jakarta on Monday 9 March. The four rescued victims are Budiman, Selamat, Johan, and Sarifudin respectively. They are truck drivers who were transporting waste to the Bantargebang TPST facility.
Additionally, four people have been reported dead. The deceased victims are Enda Widayanti, Sumine (a resident), Dedi Sutrisno, and Irwan Supriatain (a truck driver). Isnawa added that currently five people are believed to still be buried beneath the collapsed waste pile at the Bantargebang TPST facility.
