Bekasi – The death toll from a landslide of waste at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) in Bekasi City, West Java, has risen to four people as of Sunday (8 March 2026).

Additionally, five others are reported still buried under the collapse.

“Four people have been found dead, and the remaining five, according to reports received from police, are still missing,” said Akhmad Rizkiansyah, Head of Operations at Jakarta SAR, to media on Monday (9 March 2026).

Until Monday morning, personnel continued search operations for the five reported missing persons.

“Four have been found safe,” he stated.

In observations at the site Monday morning, personnel continued rescue efforts from early in the day. A total of 15 excavators have been deployed to clear the waste debris.

Personnel appeared to systematically comb through the waste pile in stages to ensure no victims remain buried under the waste material.

“A total of 336 combined personnel from Basarnas, the TNI, the police, BPBD, the Health Service, the Environmental Service, the Fire Service, Civil Order Officials and relevant parties have been recorded as involved in the search for victims,” said Rizki.

Hundreds of personnel have been deployed to assist in the search process and to secure the collapse area.

The combined teams have also located vehicles that were previously buried under the collapse material. These vehicles were in the waste disposal queue when the landslide occurred.

A team of police doctors from Kramat Jati Police Hospital has been stationed at the scene to assist with victim identification during the ongoing search operation.

It was previously reported that waste at the Bantargebang TPST in Bekasi City collapsed on Sunday (8 March 2026) afternoon.

The incident was captured in several videos circulating on social media. The footage showed the pile of waste at Bantargebang TPST collapsing and covering part of the road in the disposal area.

“It’s happened again, folks. The rubbish has collapsed. The waste that was stored earlier has collapsed again and fallen on vehicles. There are many vehicles buried here, folks,” said a resident who recorded the incident.
