Land ownership documents needed
JAKARTA (JP): The city inventory office must speed up the processing of title documents for 2.5 hectares in Kemanggisan, West Jakarta, to prevent ownership disputes, a councilor said.
Three schools owned by the municipality have stood on the land since 1974. The land originally belonged to the immigration directorate general office.
"The office granted it to the Jakarta administration early this year so the city could manage the schools properly," Achmad Suaidy, chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) faction said over the weekend.
"I'm afraid the land will be taken over by speculators or city officials who want to benefit, if the processing is to slow," he said.
The grant must be publicized to prevent misunderstandings or possible land disputes in the future, he said.
"I don't want the children and teachers in those schools to suffer because of the uncertain status of the land."
The land status came into question after Achmad made a spot inspection Friday of the land which supports junior high school SMP 111, elementary school SD Bhakti and senior high school SMU 78. (07)
