Land fires in Muaro Jambi spread to five locations

Two new hotspots were successfully extinguished by the ground task force.

Muaro Jambi, Jambi (ANTARA) — The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Muaro Jambi has stated that land fires have spread, with two new hotspots detected in two districts in the region since 8 July 2026.

“Two new hotspots were successfully extinguished by the ground task force personnel,” said Paruhuman Lubis, Head of the BPBD of Muaro Jambi Regency, in Sengeti on Thursday.

He explained that three fire points had previously been recorded, and that number grew after two additional fire locations were discovered, bringing the total number of land fire cases being handled to five.

According to reports, the latest fires struck two separate areas. The first land fire occurred in Tanjung Village, Kumpeh Ilir District, on Wednesday evening (8 July), with an estimated five hectares of vacant land burnt. Fortunately, the fire was fully extinguished by Thursday morning (9 July).

Taken cumulatively, he said, the total area of land burnt in Muaro Jambi Regency over the past month has reached nearly eight hectares. All of the burnt land is mineral soil located across the two sites.

To date, he added, BPBD has not been able to confirm the cause of the fires. To determine the cause, the agency has been coordinating with the police.

“Fortunately, what burnt was mineral land. If the fire had reached peatland areas, the extinguishing process would certainly have been far more difficult. We are continuing to coordinate with the police to conduct further investigation,” said Paruhuman Lubis.
