Land fires in Muaro Jambi spread to five locations

The Muaro Jambi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has reported that land fires in the area have spread, with two new hotspots detected in two sub-districts since 8 July 2026. “Two new hotspots have been extinguished by ground task force officers,” said Muaro Jambi BPBD Chief Executive Paruhuman Lubis in Sengeti on Thursday. He explained that three fire locations were previously recorded, and this number has increased with the discovery of two additional fire sites, bringing the total number of land fires handled to five points. According to reports, the latest fires struck two different areas. The first location was in Tanjung Village, Kumpeh Ilir District, on Wednesday (8/7) evening, where an estimated five hectares of vacant land were burned. Fortunately, the fire was completely extinguished by Thursday (9/7) morning. Cumulatively, he said, the total area of land burned in Muaro Jambi Regency over the past month has reached nearly eight hectares. All of the burned land is mineral soil located in the two areas. He added that BPBD has not yet been able to determine the cause of the fires. To uncover the cause, the agency is coordinating with the police. “Fortunately, what burned was mineral land. If the fire had reached peatland areas, extinguishing it would have been far more difficult. We are continuing to coordinate with the police to conduct further investigations,” said Paruhuman Lubis.
