Land Fire on Legian-Denpasar Border Takes Three Days to Extinguish
A land fire has occurred on the border between Legian and Denpasar, in West Denpasar, Denpasar City, Bali. The firefighting process is estimated to require two to three days.
The fire took place specifically on the Legian-Denpasar border, at Jalan Nakula, Gang Jatayu, Pemecutan Kelod, West Denpasar, Denpasar City, Bali, on Monday night (31/8).
Observations on Tuesday (1/9/2026) afternoon showed that several buildings around the fire site appeared to have been burnt and levelled to the ground. Asmuni, a resident whose house was caught in the fire, stated that approximately 100 houses were affected by the blaze.
Another resident, Tukiran, claimed to have heard explosions when the fire broke out on Monday night. According to him, several vehicles and semi-permanent buildings in the surrounding area were also caught in the flames.
“An Avanza car, a pickup, they were there. Those semi-permanent houses were all burnt. There were many, I haven’t counted them all,” said Tukiran.
The Head of the Denpasar City Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat), I Made Tirana, revealed that 12 units were deployed to handle the fire. He noted that the firefighting efforts were also supported by six fire engines from the Badung Regency.
“The area is approximately 4 to 5 hectares,” said Tirana on Tuesday (1/9/2026).
The fire location is situated near residential areas. Nearby, there are lands and warehouses frequently used by scavengers to collect waste.
Tirana admitted that firefighters encountered obstacles as several fire points were covered by corrugated iron from old warehouse roofs. Currently, field officers are awaiting heavy excavators to dismantle the materials covering the hotspots.
“If the heavy machinery arrives quickly, we can resolve this faster. The extinguishing process will take roughly two to three days,” said Tirana.
“Given the vastness of the area and the challenging terrain we are handling, everything is covered in corrugated iron,” he added.
Tirana confirmed that there were no casualties in the fire incident. He urged residents to increase vigilance against potential fire risks, especially during hot weather and prolonged dry seasons.
