Land Fire Occurs Again in Thousand Islands

The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) has reported another land fire in the Thousand Islands Regency, specifically on Jalan Kampung Baru, Pulau Tidung Village.

“The suspected cause of the fire was a cigarette butt thrown carelessly, which triggered the ignition,” said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations for the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Sudin Gulkarmat, in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that the object on fire was a 50-square-metre area of land covered in reeds.

“A resident passing by saw the reeds burning and immediately contacted the fire department for further handling,” Gatot said.

According to him, officers received the fire report at 6:30 PM WIB and immediately moved to the scene.

“We deployed fire motorcycles with seven personnel who worked hard to extinguish the flames,” Gatot added.

“The fire was successfully extinguished at 7:05 PM WIB, and the situation was brought under control by the officers,” he revealed.

Previously, the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Sudin Gulkarmat recorded 15 fire incidents occurring in the region throughout September 2026.

“We have recorded 15 fire incidents between 1–15 September 2026,” Gatot said on Wednesday (16/9).

He explained that 11 of the 15 incidents were related to reeds and rubbish.

“This must be a shared concern,” Gatot concluded.
