Land Fire in Nakula Area Continues to Blaze This Morning
A land fire occurred on the border between Legian and Denpasar, specifically on Jalan Nakula, Gang Jatayu, Pemecutan Kelod, West Denpasar, Denpasar City, Bali, on Monday (31/8) night. More than a dozen hours later, flames are still raging at several points this morning.
Observations at the location on Tuesday (1/9/2026) morning showed that the fire is consuming land filled with local residents’ waste. Thick smoke continues to rise, and flames are still visible in several spots.
Several fire engines from Badung and Denpasar continue to arrive at the scene. Firefighters are seen struggling to subdue the blaze amidst piles of rubbish.
A local resident, Tukiran (55), stated that the fire was first noticed around 11:00 WITA. At that time, Tukiran heard a sound resembling an explosion coming from the direction of the land.
“I thought it was fireworks. But when I went outside, the fire was already burning,” Tukiran said when met at the location on Tuesday morning.
According to Tukiran, firefighters arrived approximately one hour after he heard the sound of the explosion. He noted that the flames had subsided briefly around 05:00 WITA.
“It only subsided slightly until around 05:00 in the morning. The firefighters left around 07:00, but the fire flared up again. It was even more intense here. It has only just subsided again now,” he added.
He noted that several vehicles and semi-permanent buildings near the land were also caught in the fire. “There were cars, an Avanza, and a pickup truck. Those semi-permanent houses were all burnt. There were many, I didn’t count them all,” said Tukiran.
Tukiran’s house is located not far from the fire site. He and his family admitted they did not sleep all night to monitor the fire’s condition, fearing the flames would spread to their home. Tukiran also assisted the officers in extinguishing the fire and cutting down several trees to prevent further spread.
As of Tuesday morning, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Firefighting crews are still working to extinguish the flames that continue to emerge at various points.
