Land Fire Erupts on Mount Wangun in Bogor, Flames Emerge from Thatch Grass
A land fire struck the Mount Wangun area in South Bogor District, Bogor City, West Java. The flames were first spotted by residents emerging from an area of thatch grass.
“According to residents’ accounts, the fire initially started in the thatch grass,” said M Ade Nugraha, Head of the Firefighting and Rescue Division at the Bogor City Fire Department, in a statement on Monday (13/7/2026).
The fire occurred at around 6.10 p.m. Western Indonesian Time this evening. As of now, the Bogor City Fire Department has not determined the cause of the fire, as the flames suddenly grew large when the area was quiet.
“The cause is not yet known because the location was deserted at the time of the incident; the fire was already quite large and burning the thatch grass area,” he stated.
Ade mentioned that residents were concerned the fire would spread to residential areas. They subsequently reported the incident to the nearest firefighting service.
“The report was received at 6.20 p.m. WIB and officers arrived at the location at 6.31 p.m. WIB,” he said.
Upon arrival, officers immediately worked to extinguish the fire. The firefighting effort, along with the cooling-down process, lasted approximately 50 minutes.
“The final situation is safe and under control; the officers carried out the extinguishing operation immediately,” he concluded.
