Land Fire at KM 9 Penajam Successfully Contained, No Casualties

A land fire occurred at KM 9, Nipah-Nipah Village, Penajam District, directly in front of the Islamic Centre in Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), East Kalimantan, on Tuesday (14/7). The incident was met with a swift response from the PPU Police Department together with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), successfully preventing the land fire from spreading.

PPU Police Chief AKBP Andreas Alek Danantara, through Head of Public Relations Aipda Syafruddin, stated that the fire was first reported by a resident named Rizky via the National Police Call Centre 110 at around 12.20 WITA. Following up on the report, the Command Centre 110 officer immediately forwarded the information to Pamapta II and the Satsamapta patrol unit of the PPU Police to proceed to the location.

Personnel from the PPU Police, led by Pamapta II Ipda Widiyoko Tyas Mono, promptly conducted checks and coordinated with PPU BPBD officers. Firefighting efforts were carried out quickly and in an integrated manner to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to surrounding areas that could potentially endanger the public or the environment.

“As soon as the report was received via Call Centre 110, personnel immediately moved to the location and synergised with BPBD to carry out the firefighting,” he said.

Thanks to solid cooperation, the fire was successfully extinguished, followed by a cooling-down process to ensure no remaining hotspots could reignite the fire. The situation at the location was brought under control and declared safe and conducive.

He emphasised that the speed of response to public reports is part of the PPU Police’s commitment to providing professional, responsive, and humanist services.

“The 110 emergency service exists to make it easier for the public to report any incident requiring rapid handling. We encourage the public to immediately contact 110 if they encounter situations that could potentially disrupt security or safety,” he stated.

In handling the fire, there were no reported casualties or material losses. The operation involved Pamapta II personnel, Satsamapta patrol units, Command Centre 110 officers, Bamin SPKT of the PPU Police, and personnel from the PPU Regency BPBD.

The successful handling of this incident serves as evidence of the synergy between the authorities and the local government in providing protection and a sense of security to the community, while also demonstrating the importance of utilising the 110 emergency service to accelerate on-the-ground incident response.
