Land dispute in Cengkareng Timur

JAKARTA (JP): More than 700 squatters living on the land owned by the state-run housing developer Perum Perumnas, in Cengkareng Timur, have received their compensation money and are now willing to permit the demolition of their houses.

"Their readiness to demolish the houses means that Perum Perumnas has no more obstacles to clear the area to make way for the construction of apartments," Karsidin from the West Jakarta Office for Order and Security Affairs said yesterday as reported by Antara.

The news agency, however, did not mention the exact amount of the compensation money for the squatters.

It is not clear if they agreed to receive the compensation of between Rp 20,000 and Rp 50,000 per square meter offered by Perum Perumnas, or if the developer granted the residents their demand for Rp 200,000 per square meter. (bas)
