We did not know earlier that since last year the land and property tax has been raised so remarkably high. Many people even have to pay as much as three times the tax they paid in 1992.

A friend of mine who owns a 2,110 square meter plot of land without any buildings on it, has to pay three times of the amount of the tax he paid in 1992, Rp 60,000 as opposed to Rp 20,000. Until now he has not paid the tax because he cannot afford to pay it and the deadline for the payment is Dec. 31, 1994.

Besides, many errors were made by the authorities in determining the amount of both the land and property tax. Worse still, many land and property owners' names have been mistaken for other people's names.

For example, my daughter Soraya Tobing, as the owner of the house situated at Block No. 12 Bukit Pamulang Indah has been changed into Rukmoro. I wonder how such a big mistake could have occurred.

We hope that the local Tangerang authorities will look into the matter.
