Lampung's Permanent 'Sekolah Rakyat' MPLS Postponed to 31 July 2026

The Lampung Provincial Government has announced that the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for the permanent Sekolah Rakyat in Kotabaru, South Lampung Regency, has been postponed to 31 July 2026 because the physical construction is not yet complete. Head of the Lampung Social Service, Aswarodi, stated in Bandarlampung on Monday that the MPLS for the 2026/2027 academic year was originally scheduled for 13-14 July 2026. However, as the permanent Sekolah Rakyat building in Kotabaru is only 82 percent complete, a policy decision from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Public Works has mandated a delay. He explained that the students will not be carrying out the MPLS at the Lampung Province BPSDM Building, as previous cohorts did, because its capacity is insufficient. The building can only accommodate three classes and still houses students from the previous year, necessitating the move to the new site. To maintain the students’ enthusiasm for learning, the authorities have conducted an online socialisation of the 2026/2027 MPLS. Aswarodi added that construction progress on the Sekolah Rakyat in East Lampung Regency has reached 92 percent. The permanent Sekolah Rakyat projects in Kotabaru, South Lampung, and in East Lampung are being handled by the same contractor, with the final construction contract deadline set for 31 July. He emphasised the desire for the entire construction process to maintain good quality, not just speed.
